How to Change a Hat's Size
Just like a piece of clothing, a hat requires a perfect fit in order to look good. Changing a hat's size can be a little tricky, but it isn't impossible. You can reblock a hat, which will basically re-shape it and allow you to adjust its appearance, if necessary.

1
Measure around the circumference of your head to find an appropriately sized hat form.
-
2
Purchase a hat block or you can also blow up a balloon to the measurement you took in Step 1. See the Resources below for a list of places where you can purchase hat blocks and forms.

-
3
Remove any grosgrain ribbon from the inside of your hat using a seam ripper. Try to avoid pulling out any lining from the hat or any pieces you may feel uncomfortable replacing later.
-
4
Moisten your hat with water or steam from an iron.
-
5
Work your way around the hat, stretching it out little by little or pushing it together, depending on what kind of changes are necessary.
-
6
Fit the moistened hat over the balloon, and allow it to sit until it is dry.
-
7
If you took out any grosgrain ribbon or lining, pin it back in place, and sew it down using your sewing machine.
