Determine the size of the keg you'll need. Beer kegs come in half (7.75 gallons) and full (15.5 gallons) sizes.

    • 2

Find the nearest location that sells kegs. Call beer and liquor stores in your area to determine who sells beer kegs and which kinds are available.

    • 3

Pick up your beer keg. You'll need to show valid ID and bring a credit card to put down a deposit on the keg and tap.

    • 4

Transport your keg home. Arrange for at least two other people to come help you load the keg in your car and unload it when you reach your destination. Be sure to keep the keg as steady as possible while moving it to prevent over-carbonation.

Return the empty keg and tap to the retailer after the party. Be sure to return them as soon as possible to ensure you get your deposit back.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to start shopping for kegs at least a week in advance in case the retailer needs to place a special order. Don't forget to buy plenty of plastic cups and ice to keep the keg cold.
