How to Hang Voile Curtains

Semi-sheer voile curtains allow light to filter through while maintaining privacy. Home decorators use voile curtains extensively for French doors, sidelight windows in entryways and three-season rooms with a lot of glass. Voile curtains around pools and cabanas create an airy, open feeling.

Things You'll Need

• Step ladder Tape measure Voile curtains Curtain rods Screwdrivers Scarf (optional) Dividers or rolling frames (optional)

Instructions

1. Measure your windows carefully, using a step ladder and tape measure. Purchase curtains and curtain rods of the appropriate type and size, as well as any hardware or accessories required for installation.

2. 

   install voile curtains that have wider rod pockets using either metal or wooden pole-style curtain rods. You can drape a matching scarf over the decorative ends on these rods to form a top treatment and give a more elegant appearance.

3. 

   Hang voile curtains that have tab tops on decorative rods. Depending on the style of curtains, the tabs may simply slide over the curtain rod or may fasten with Velcro®, snaps or buttons.

4. 

   Hang rod-pocket voile curtains on a French door. Thread them on the curtain rods through both the top and bottom. This keeps curtains in place when the doors are open and provides privacy when they're closed. Hang the top rod first and install curtains on it. Thread bottom rod through and mark for the installation of brackets. This will insure that the curtains hang smoothly without gaps or sagging.

5. 

   Hang voile curtains in the windows of a three-season room. These can be either rod-pocket or tab-topped.

6. 

   Fasten voile curtain panels to movable dividers or rolling frames to ensure privacy for swimming pools. Voile curtains designed for outdoor use generally have tab tops with Velcro®, so you can adjust them to fit different sizes of panel frames.
