New Era hats have become a statement making accessory among urban populations and the hip hop community. This brand’s hat styles are made of materials such as wool, polyester or cotton, which are susceptible to changes in size and appearance if not properly cared for. Familiarize yourself with the proper ways of cleaning a New Era hat so that you can keep it in good condition and continue wearing it for a long time.
Cut a strip of masking tape and wrap it around your fingers so that the sticky side is exposed. Pat the hat with the tape so that the sticky portion picks up any dust and hair.
Place a small amount of detergent and stain remover onto a wet washcloth. Gently rub the hat’s headband to remove soil and sweat stains. Rinse the wash cloth out with water and use it to remove any excess detergent from the headband.
Use a special hat cleaning kit (see Resources). Apply the cleaning solution to the brush and gently rub the hat with the brush to remove grime. You can machine wash New Era caps made of polyester or cotton with the rest of your clothes if you do not own a special cleaning kit.
Dry the hat in the sun or with the help of a portable hair dryer. For best results, wear the hat on your head as it dries or rest the hat on top of a coffee mug to ensure that the hat maintains its shape.
