Things You'll Need:
- Ladder
- Carpenter's rule
- Drill
- Anchors
- Brackets
- Screws
- Screwdriver
-
Step 1
Use a carpenter's rule to measure 2 inches outside and 4 inches above the window frame on each side where the drapery rod and curtains will be. Holding a bracket up to the wall, mark where the outside edges of the bracket will be, on both sides.
-
Step 2
Drill holes for two anchors on each side of the window, based on the holes in the brackets. Use a drill bit that is smaller than the diameter of the anchor. Tap the anchor with a hammer until it is flush with the wall.
-
Step 3
Install the brackets. Place the bracket over the anchor so the drill holes align with the anchor holes. Push a screw through a hole and tighten it with a screwdriver.
-
Step 4
Clip the drapery rod in place. Hang the rod over the top so it catches the upper hook. It is easier to hook one side at a time. When the top is secure, gently push the bottom of the rod onto the lower hooks so it locks in place. (See Tips and Resources).
-
Step 5
Place a carpenter's level over the drapery rod to ensure that the brackets are mounted evenly on both sides. If the rod is not level, remove the rod and brackets and repeat Steps 1 to 4.
-
Step 6
Measure and mark the distance between the rods to install the center support. Divide the figure by two to find the center. Place a mark on the wall for the drill hole.
-
Step 7
Mount the center support bracket with anchors. Remove the rod to access the wall, then drill the holes for the anchors. Align the center bracket with the anchor holes, then secure it to the wall by inserting and tightening a screw.
-
Step 8
Thread the rings, hooks or curtain directly onto the drapery rod.
-
Step 9
Return the drapery rod to the bracket.
