The fragrant jasmine flower is a popular garland in Asia, an aromatic addition to green tea, and its essence is used in perfume and incense. The tiny white flowers bloom like starfish, and their petals are easy to draw. With a pad and paper and charcoal sticks for drawing, a jasmine flower can be sketched out simply, with the image of a jasmine flower by JM Garg used as a guide.

Instructions

  1. Drawing a Jasmine Flower With Charcoal

    • 1

Draw the first jasmine petal, which tapers slightly as it gets closer to the center of the flower. Include a very rounded "M" shape at the end of each petal, which is a visual signifier of the flower. After drawing the first petal, mark the base of the other petals with the charcoal.

    • 2

Use your fingers to measure the length of the first petal. This will be your scale guide for the other petals.

    • 3

Mark out the ends of the other petals, and pay attention to your finger measurement for scale. Take note of the rounded "M" shape at the end of all the petals.

    • 4

Connect the dots. Draw the other petals, connecting the marks at the base of the petals to the ends. In the photograph, one petal is overlapped by another, so this one is saved for last before it's drawn.

    • 5

Draw the last petal, and instead of joining one side to the base, connect it to part of the other petal, creating an illusion of overlap. Draw the jasmine's stigma, which is cone-shaped and at the center of the flower.

    • 6

Add shading and background details to enhance the image of the jasmine flower. Include a stem, some vaguely heart-shaped leaves, buds and any other background details, like grasses and leaves.
