How to Build a Web Shooter

Halloween is the spookiest time of year and people go all out to decorate their houses. One of the most impressive effects is cobwebs, but it is difficult to spread the cotton webs evenly. With a little know-how and work, you can create your own web shooter using a hot glue gun.

Things You'll Need

  • Glue gun
  • Nine to 11" of copper tubing
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Small air compressor
  • Air compressor fitting

Instructions

    • 1

Open up the glue gun using the screwdriver and examine its inner workings. The copper tubing must be inserted into the bottom of the apparatus and then snaked through the innards and out near the nozzle. By examining the insides, you can decide the best course.

    • 2

Drill the holes. Once you have figured out a route for the copper tubing, put the glue gun back together. Drill a hole in the bottom of the handle for the entrance of the copper tubing and a hole under the nozzle where the copper tubing will exit.

    • 3

Fit the copper tubing to the compressor. You can purchase a special fitting that you can use to attach the copper tubing to the end of the air compressor hose. When the compressor is activated, air will shoot out the copper tubing.

    • 4

Put the parts back into the gun. Open the gun casing and thread the tubing through to the end, bending it where needed. Then take the gun's heating element and the remainder of its insides and fit it back into the gun. Make sure the hot glue will come out the end of the gun.

    • 5

Screw together the casing. With all the parts in their proper places, reconnect the casing. The gun should look exactly as it had before except for a small tube coming out the end and the handle.

    • 6

Turn on the compressor. After turning on the air compressor, press the glue gun trigger so the glue will begin coming out of the end. The air from the compressor will shoot the glue forward in small strands that will cover anything in front of it. The air will cool the glue so that it falls in strands and harden to resemble cobwebs.

Tips & Warnings

  • * Be careful that the copper tubing is not too close to the heating element. * The glue exiting the gun will be hot, so be careful. * The glue webbing may cause staining on some fabrics.
