1
Using a sharp knife, or other suitable object, poke several holes in the top of a small metal tin. The tin you use to make this car air freshener should be small enough to fit under the seat of your car, but also large enough to hold some potpourri and several cotton balls.
-
2
Remove the holed lid from the tin, and fill it about ¾ of the way full with the potpourri of your choice. This will form the base for your car air freshener.
-
-
3
Soak several cotton balls in the fragrance oil of your choice. Try to use a fragrance that compliments the potpourri you've used.
-
4
Place the soaked cotton balls on top of the potpourri in the metal tin. If you find the scent of the car air freshener too strong, you can omit some or all of the cotton balls.
-
5
Replace the holed lid on the tin, and your homemade car air freshener is ready to be used. Place it under your car seat and enjoy the fragrance every time you take a drive.

Tips & Warnings
Do not use essential oils to make this car air freshener. They are too volatile (not to mention expensive) to use in this manner. Use fragrance or potpourri oil instead. They can be purchased at local craft and hobby stores, or ordered online.
Replace the car air freshener once every few months, or as the smell begins to diminish.
