Now that you have your Nintendo DSi, you can play games, take photos, and more. Did you know you can connect your Nintendo DSi to the internet?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You must either have broadband internet access and a wireless router or you can connect your Nintendo DSi at a hotspot, such as a library or coffee shop that offers internet access. Make sure you are in a location mentioned above before going to step 2.

  2. Step 2

Turn on your Nintendo DSi and click on the wrench icon. This will take you to the system settings.

  3. Step 3

Go to page 3 and select "Internet".

  4. Step 4

    Click "Connection Settings".

  5. Step 5

Click "None" to the right of "Connection 1".

  6. Step 6

Click "Search for an Access Point".

  7. Step 7

Look for an access point that has a gold lock that is unlocked. Select that access point and your Nintendo DSi should now be connected.

  8. Step 8

If you are planning on playing games online with your Nintendo DSi and have WPA security, you will have to set your router to WEP security.

To do this, get back to the "Connection Settings" screen mentioned in step 4.

    Click "Advanced Setup".

Click any button that says "none".

Click "Search for an Access Point".

Look for an access point that has a gold lock that is unlocked. Select that access point and your Nintendo DSi should now be connected.

on 7/31/2009 I have a note book with WiFI, but I only have mobile broadband(3) as an internet server, the girls at Dick Smiths keep telling me the WiFi is all internal, and it,(the DSi) Will find the computer, but not once have I got on line!!? Is there any way without a router? If I do buy the nintendo usb lead ($50),does any one know if that will finally get the DSi on line,or am I going to still be asked who my router is? (Dont want to put bad money, after bad!).Spent enough allready, being told its easy. Sorry I know its not your fault, just spent so long trying snd trying. Frustrated........

on 6/29/2009 I have a DSi too and have tried to use "free" wifi at many locations. Sadly, most of the places, even the ones that advertise having free wifi won't allow my DSi to connect. It seems that there are a lot of places that have their wifi set up in such a way that the DSi is incompatible with it. I've seen other people with laptops at those same places who had no trouble connecting to the internet. I like the internet feature of the DSi but it seems to be more limited than the advertisements led us to believe.

I've tried using it at home and did suceed with setting up a wireless hot spot of my own using a Linksys wireless access point. It worked great for about a month before mysteriously failing. Now my DSi can't detect the acess point no matter what I do. I tried everything the manual, Linksys website and DSi manual said to do, but nothing worked. Not even when the DSi was inc...

on 4/27/2009 If the gold locks are all locked, you will need to purchase internet service and use your own service instead of someone else's service. If you already have internet service, select your device name and enter your password.
