If you want to design a country themed bedroom, an antique dresser adds a nice touch. An antique dresser may be out of your price range though. Even a new dresser that is made to look antique can cost in the hundreds. The good thing is that you can purchase a regular dresser and make it look antique. This means that a dresser that costs less than $200 can be made to look like a dresser that would cost close to $1,000. All it takes is a few inexpensive supplies and these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Heavy chain
  • Black paint
  • White paint
  • Sand paper
  • Small paint brush
  1. Step 1

Take a chain and beat the dresser to create dints. An antique dresser is usually dinged up from being moved from home to home. This look is easy to create on a brand new dresser. All you need to do is take a heavy chain and hit the dresser in random spots. Swing the chain hard so that the chain can make a good impression.

  2. Step 2

Paint the dresser with black paint. An antique dresser is usually stained with age. An easy way to recreate that look is to start with a layer of black paint. The black paint will serve as a base that will be revealed after further distressing the dresser.

  3. Step 3

Add one to two layers of white paint. You will want to add enough white paint so that the black paint doesn't show through. Allow the paint to fully dry before moving on to the next step.

  4. Step 4

Use sandpaper to remove some of the top layer of paint. Randomly sand areas of the dresser to reveal the black paint. You'll want to choose areas that would normally become worn over the years. Think of areas where hands would have touched the dresser over and over.

  5. Step 5

Complete the distressed look by using black paint along some of the edges. Use a small paint brush to paint the edges of the dresser. This step should also be random. Drag the brush along the edge, but don't try to get a perfect line. This is supposed to look like it came from age and age wouldn't leave a perfect line along the edge.
