How to Make Shea Butter & Beeswax Lotion

Originating in Africa, shea butter benefits the skin like no other natural ingredient. It aids in healing dry skin, rashes, irritation of the face, body and scalp, and it can be used as frequently as desired. Beeswax, found in the nectar of flowers, hydrates skin and increases skin's natural moisture. Combining these ingredients with other nourishing skin oils creates a homemade lotion that will keep skin healthy and glowing.

Things You'll Need

  • Shea butter
  • Beeswax
  • Avocado oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Sesame oil

Gather ingredients. Combine 1/2 cup of shea butter, 1 tbsp. of grated beeswax, 1 tbsp. of avocado oil, 1 tbsp. of coconut oil and 2 tbsp. of sesame oil.

Put ingredients in a glass ovenproof bowl and create a water bath. On a stove top, put the glass bowl with ingredients in a pan with 2 inches of water.

Heat until oils, shea butter and beeswax are melted together. Stir gently and do not allow mixture to boil.

Pour liquid lotion into a clean jar. Allow to cool completely.

Stir gently after mixture has cooled. Spread generously over the body.
