Make a Fabric Memory Board

Plain bulletin boards are not that attractive and rarely go with a room's décor. A fabric memory board can be a matching set with your window curtains by using the same fabric. Memory boards can be used specifically for photos and/or reminder notes, invitations, bills to be paid or any number of items. This project is not difficult.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Wood-framed cork bulletin board, 18 inches high by 24 inches wide
    • 3/4 yard cotton fabric
    • 2 rolls of 1/2-inch satin ribbon
    • Crib quilt batting
    • Thread
    • Matching buttons
    • Craft glue
    • Staple gun
    • Staples
    • Needle
    • Scissors
    • Sponge brush
      • 1

Paint the front of the bulletin board with the craft glue, using the sponge brush. Lay the batting on top of the bulletin board and press down over the entire area.

      • 2

Cut the fabric to approximately 26 inches by 32 inches and place it right-side down on a work table. Place the bulletin board onto the fabric, batting side down.

      • 3

Staple the fabric to the back of the bulletin board. Start at the center of one side and then pull tight on the opposite side and staple. Work your way around the board, easing corners until the fabric is secured.

      • 4

Cut the satin ribbon as you make strips to fit the front of the memory board. Start the first ribbon strip diagonally from one corner to the other. Staple each end in the back. Do the same with the next ribbon on the opposite corners. Work strips of ribbon along the front side of the memory board until you have a grid covering it as in the sample picture above.

Sew a button through the fabric and batting wherever the ribbons intersect. This gives your memory board a tufted appearance.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you choose to make a larger fabric memory board, use wider satin ribbon. Items may be tucked under the ribbon or attached with push-pins.
