How to Make a Good Samaritan Craft
This project shows the children how important it is to have compassion for other people and it gives them a tangible way to show they care about someone when they are hurt. Just like the Good Samaritan took care of the man who was left on the side of the road, the children can use their First Aid Boxes to help their family and friends.
Things You'll Need
- Small boxes such as child's shoebox or plastic school supply box (one for each child)
- Non-toxic paints
- Paint sponges
- Paper plates
- Baby wipes
- Band-aids (several for each child)
- Cotton Balls (several for each child)
- Individually wrapped gauze pads (several for each child)
- Lollipop (one for each child)
Instructions
-
-
1
Give each child a box. Explain that this box will be a First-Aid box, and these boxes are used to help people who are hurt or sick.
-
2
Squirt paint onto paper plates and put the plates onto the tables with the sponges. Caution children not to touch the paints until you say it is time to begin the craft.
-
-
3
Let the children decorate the boxes with the sponges and paint. Encourage them to make nice designs.
-
4
Let the boxes dry. During this time, you can have the children sit in a circle and re-tell the story of the Good Samaritan. This will get them away from the tables to prevent them from touching the wet boxes.
-
5
After the boxes are dry give each child band-aids, cotton balls, gauze pads and a lollipop. Have them put the items into the box.
-
6
Tell the children: This is your Good Samaritan box. If your brother, sister or a friend gets hurt, ask your Mommy if you can get your box and help her make them better. The lollipop is to make them happy even though they are hurt.

Tips & Warnings
You may want to have old T-shirts available to put over the children's clothes to protect them from the paint.
