Get Rid of that Fake Tan

Mystic Tan is a line of products designed to create a natural-looking tan on the skin without the sun's harmful UV rays. Mystic Tan is available at most tanning salons, as well as over-the-counter and online. Mystic Tans are usually airbrushed on, but also come in lotions and sprays. Although Mystic Tans are usually even and natural-looking, sometimes orange patches appear on rough skin, such as the heels of the feet and hands, the elbows and the knees. If you are experiencing unnatural orange streaks or patches, it may be time to remove your Mystic Tan.

Things You'll Need:

  • Sea salt exfoliant Loofah Razor Self-tanning remover Oil-free moisturizer
  1. Step 1

Rub your body all over with a sea salt exfoliant. The sea salt is abrasive enough to dissolve the residue from the tan and slough off dead skin cells without irritating the skin.

  2. Step 2

Rub your skin in a circular motion with a loofah, paying attention to your elbows, knees and other rough areas of skin. Discard the loofah after use, as it will have absorbed the Mystic Tan residue and look orange in color.

  3. Step 3

Shave your legs. Shaving your legs will remove dead skin cells from your legs as well as remove a majority of the Mystic Tan from your legs.

  4. Step 4

Use self-tanning remover wipes, such as St. Tropez Self-Tan Remover, to dissolve the remaining Mystic Tan. Because the remover wipes are soft, it may take several minutes of skin contact before you see a difference.

  5. Step 5

Moisturize your skin with an oil-free moisturizer. Your body will shed dead skin cells in the shower every day, and it may take about a month for all traces of your Mystic Tan to disappear. By keeping your skin moisturized, you can avoid uneven removal of your Mystic Tan so it will evenly fade over the next few weeks.
