Quadrajet carburetors are one of those things that you either love or hate. There are many people who feel that they are the best carburetors ever made and deserve to be taken care of, while other people feel that the best thing you can do is throw the carburetor away and replace it with a Holley carburetor. No matter what your feelings, Quadrajet carburetors are very easy to tune up. A slight adjustment can have your carburetor running in peak performance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Screwdriver Tachometer
  1. Step 1

Locate the two adjustment screws on the side of the barrel to your Quadrajet carburetor. Turn the adjustment screws until the are completely bottomed out. Only turn them hard enough to touch the bottom. Once they are all the way down, turn them back two complete turns.

  2. Step 2

Turn the car engine on and let it idle until the motor is warmed up.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the vacuum hose on the carburetor and hook up the tachometer to the vacuum port.

  4. Step 4

Adjust the screws one at a time until you achieve the highest ratings on the tachometer for each adjusting screw. Once you have peaked out on the meter, repeat the adjustments to make sure it has been done properly.

  5. Step 5

Set the idle to 1,000 rpm's with the car in park and the adjustments are complete.
