Fluorescent bulbs bring you several benefits. They are bright, last longer than incandescent bulbs and are much more energy efficient than other bulbs.
The task of installing them may seem daunting, especially if you have never worked with electrical appliances before. However, given that fluorescent light fixtures are now manufactured with ease of installation in mind, it is not as difficult to install them as it appears. The process of installation takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete.
Things You'll Need
- Fluorescent light fixture Screwdriver Wire stripper Wire nuts
Turn off the circuit breaker or remove the fuse to the energy supply of the light. Since you will be dealing with the inner electronics of the light fixture, it is crucial that you remove all chance of electrical shock by cutting off the power supply.
Remove the existing light fixture. Disconnect all wires from the original lamp fixture and then find the wires on the new fluorescent bulb.
Match the wires in the new fluorescent bulb by color. Connect them to the light fixture and fasten them with the wire nuts.
Attach the new light fixture, which is now connected to the fluorescent bulb electrically, to the ceiling with a screwdriver.
Replace the fuse or turn the circuit breaker back on. Flip on the light switch and test the new light.
Tips & Warnings
- Do not turn your new fluorescent bulb on and off rapidly. This degenerates the bulb.
- Be careful when working with electrical appliances. Electrical shock can injure or even kill you.
