Things You'll Need:
- Staple gun Tin snips
-
Step 1
Measure the length of flashing you will need. Cut the flashing with your tin snips to the appropriate length needed.
-
Step 2
Lay down the flashing where it is needed, making sure that the middle of the flashing is in the groove of the valley. If it's on the side where it meets an addition, make sure that half of the flashing is on the roof, and the other half is up on the addition to shield the connection gap.
-
Step 3
Staple down the flashing by stapling 1 inch in from the edge of the flashing.
-
Step 4
Proceed to roofing and applying your fascia board. Once completed the flashing will be covered, and you will have a waterproof barrier for those gaps that were not covered before.
-
Step 5
Apply tar if needed for extra protection where water can back up under the roofing before laying the shingles so that the tar is under the shingles.
