Instructions

    • 1

Open the umbrella and remove the waterproof fabric by snipping the threads that hold it to the ribs of the umbrella. Depending on how the umbrella is constructed, you may need to cut around the button at the top of the umbrella.

    • 2

Paint the ribs and handle of the umbrella to match the color of lace you will be applying.

    • 3

Drape the lace square over the opened umbrella and sew to the ribs at the points where the original fabric was attached. After ends and all points are secured, cut away the overhanging lace to shape the outer edge of the parasol.

    • 4

Sew ruffled lace trim onto the edges of the main lace piece around the outside of the parasol, overlapping lace trim ¼-inch on top of raw edges of main lace piece. Due this with the parasol still open and using a hand sewing needle and thread.

    • 5

Tie ¼-inch satin ribbon in tiny bows at the end of each rib. Using the 1-inch ribbon, make a bow with a loop at the end of the handle, which can be used to allow the parasol to hang from your wrist.

    • 6

Glue a decorative button or jeweled bead to the top of the umbrella at its center.
