Learn the proper way to shop for a kitchen cooktop. I am a retired appliance specialist and many people have no clue of how to purchase cooktops. Most people shop price and looks instead of what they need. So here I will teach you how to always get the best deal when shopping for cooktops.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    Gas Flame

First step to choosing the cooktop for your home is to decide whether you need gas or electric.

  2. Step 2
    Open Storage

The next step is to determine where the cooktop is going to go. Is it a ventilation hood above the area? Or will the cooktop need it's own ventilation?

Even if you do have a vent hood, you can create more space by purchasing a cooktop with downdraft ventilation. You can take out that old hood and put up a nice light fixture or create an area for dangling cookware.

  3. Step 3

Determine the size of the cooktop. Cooktops come in different sizes varying from 26 inches up to 40 inches. 30 inches is the standard size found in most homes.

Most depths are 22 inches, in cooktops.

  4. Step 4
    Removable Cooktop Knobs

The next step in purchasing a cooktop is determining your needs. How many burners do you need? Do you want locking controls? Removable knobs? Always determine what's important to you early on so you don't impulsively spend more on features you don't need.

  5. Step 5

Once you've found a cooktop you like. You're now ready to shop around. Many stores have promotions such as free shipping and installation. Free haul away, and other discounts; so be sure you shop around!
