How to Make Hand Mirrors
Hand mirrors are fun to make and give as special gifts. A beautifully embellished hand mirror can provide an interesting touch to a dressing table. A crafter can create a dozen hand mirrors, and each can look unique. Typically a hand mirror includes a handle with a circular or rectangular mirror at the top.

1
Draw the outline of a hand mirror onto a piece of cardboard. Use a hand mirror as a template if you must.
-
2
Cut out the cardboard drawing.

-
3
Papier-mâché the cardboard cutout. Dip a strip of newspaper into the starch, wiping off the excess, and wrap the strip around the cardboard. Add additional "padding" to the handle.
-
4
Apply a final layer of papier-mâché using strips of paper towel. Shape the hand mirror, and don't be afraid to mold the wet surface to create the desired shape.
-
5
Allow to dry completely.
-
6
Paint the hand mirror. After it dries, add a coat of varnish. Before and after varnishing, embellishments can be added.
-
