This article on how to make play dough at home is a recipe and few creative learning ideas that you can do with your play dough once it is made. I also have storage tips to help you get a longer life out of your play dough.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 and ½ cups flour
  • ½ cup salt
  • 1-cup water
  • 1-cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tarter
  • Food coloring
  1. Step 1

To make the play dough mix flour, salt, water, cream of tarter, and vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until all ingredients come together. This should take about five minutes. Now you have your play dough it will be a bit runny until it cools if it is to runny ass more flour.

  2. Step 2

To make the play dough mix flour, salt, water, and vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until all ingredients come together. This should take about five minutes. Now you have your play dough it will be a bit runny until it cools if it is to runny ass more flour.

  3. Step 3

Have your kids measure ingredients and stir to get them involved in the process and give them the pride of making something themselves. Know you can use cookie cutters to learn shapes. Use rolling pins to flatten your play dough. You can also use the shapes from a shape sorter toy if you do not have cookie cutters. Another good lesson to teach with play dough is colors. Dye your play dough with red, blue, and yellow. Have your kids mix the colored play dough together to learn about mixing colors. Mix yellow and red for orange, yellow and blue for green and red and blue for purple. This is a fun experiment for kids at around five years old.

  4. Step 4

To store use zip lock bags or a air tight container and store in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.
