Everyone loves the fun and beauty of Christmas and making your own wine cork ornaments can add memories that will last for ages. Who doesn't remember making ornaments as a child either at home with the family, at grandma's house or at school? It didn't matter if it was from paper, clay or corks, it was fun. Making reindeer ornaments is a great way to build memories and recycle some of the wine corks you may have saved up over the holiday season.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 small wine corks
  • 1 medium wine cork
  • 1 large wine cork
  • 1 brown pipe cleaner
  • Tan construction paper
  • 2 small craft eyes
  • 1 small, red bead
  • 3 inches of thin ribbon
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1
A simple pattern for the ears and tail.

A simple pattern for the ears and tail.

Draw 2 ears and 1 tail onto a piece of tan construction paper. You can use a simple pattern like the one pictured here or design your own. Cut out each piece and place to the side until step 6 below.

  2. Step 2
Use 4 small wine corks as legs.

Use 4 small wine corks as legs.

Attach the 4 small wine corks to the bottom of the large wine cork with hot glue. One at a time, place a glob of hot glue onto the flat surface of the small corks and press into place. This will create the legs for your reindeer.

  3. Step 3
    Position the reindeer's head.

    Position the reindeer's head.

Place a glob of hot glue onto the side of the medium wine cork and position it onto the top, front side of the large wine cork. This creates the head for the reindeer.

  4. Step 4

Attach the small, red bead on the front of the medium cork for the reindeer's nose. The safest and easiest way to do this is to place a small dab of hot glue onto the cork and press the bead into the hot glue, being very careful not to get your fingers into the hot glue.

  5. Step 5
    The reindeer's eyes and nose.

Hot glue the reindeer's eyes to the top of the head one at a time. Again, the easiest and safest way to do this is to place a small ball of hot glue onto the cork and press the eyes into hot glue using the end of a pencil. The pencil helps keep the fingers from being burned by the hot glue.

  6. Step 6

Hot glue the construction paper ears and tail in place. This is accomplished by placing a small drop of hot glue onto the cork and pressing them into place with the end of a pencil. Construction paper is very thin and fingers can be burned through the paper.

  7. Step 7

Construct a hanger for the wine cork reindeer ornament. Fold the 3-inch piece of ribbon in half, making a loop. Attach the ribbon to the head of the ornament. This is easily accomplished by placing a small dab of hot glue onto the reindeer's ears and pressing the ribbon into place with a pencil. Because the ribbon is what allows you to hang the wine cork reindeer ornament, it is necessary to sink the ribbon into the hot glue well.

  8. Step 8
Ears, ribbon, antlers and tail, all attached.

Ears, ribbon, antlers and tail, all attached.

Create the antlers of the wine cork reindeer ornament out of a pipe cleaner. Cut the pipe cleaner in half with a pair of scissors. Bend each of your pipe cleaner pieces in half again, creating antlers for each side of the head. Glue the bended end of the pipe cleaner on behind the ears and ribbon. Shape the antlers by bending them gently.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the end of a pencil to press the small pieces into the hot glue. Work gently with the pieces to avoid breaking them apart. If working with children, craft glue can be used instead of hot glue.
  • Hot glue can cause severe burns to the skin. Proceed carefully.
