Look in your own house. Do you have "stuff" just laying around...search the attic, the garage, closets. Find anything you don't need or use anymore. Might be electronics, clothes, hobbies, collections, toys, pictures and frames...the list goes on. When I first started making money on Ebay, I spent my first few months just selling things I found in my own home. Some people have hundreds if not thousands of dollars of stuff lying around their house in the stuff they no longer use. It's time to clean house...only this time, you're going to make money while you're at it.

Who doesn't love a good yard or garage sale? Well, no longer are these sales just good for you finding that "just right item you've been looking for and can't get anymore." Now a garage or yard sale becomes the perfect oasis of money making items for your new Ebay hobby. Look for those same items you had around the house that sold for a profit. Just don't overpay for your items. Rule of Thumb: if you can make 4x's what you pay for it, then it's a no-brainer...get it and sell it. Don't forget that you can offer the sellers less for their yard sale items and they are almost always willing to work with you. Never give up...map out your Saturday...find those yard sales and get some inventory. Don't be discouraged if you don't find anything good at the first sale. Often times, I find that one sale that is always a goldmine.

When the stuff you have at home dries up and the yard/garage sales are out of season, turn to department stores/chain stores and look for their discounted merchandise. My favorite retailer for this happens to be Target. They are always moving old merchandise and they discount these items in huge percentages. I've gotten toys and elctronics at Target for 70% off already. It keeps me going during the winter months.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep a running list of what you've found and what has sold for a profit. This will help you begin to knwo what sells and doesn't sell. It lessens any risk you might be taking.

  • Rummage sales are the best...especially at churches. They have the cheapest prices, and often they do a bag sale at the end. Filling a bag to it's capacity for a $1 is a steal and a good way to get inventory.

  • Go through Target or your retailer and make a list of what they have discounted. Then go check out those items on Ebay before you buy. Research is key. Also, refer to that ongoing list you've made.

  • Start slow...except at home where you don't have any cost to your items. The worst feeling is spending $10 for something at a yard sale, because you thought it would sell, and nobody bites.

This is all so true! The most unlikely things become a "woo-hoo" (an item you get good $$ eBay). Make notes of things that have sold well for you and carry it with you when you shop.
