Remove your Acrylic Nails

So you want to remove your acrylic nails after they have grown out. Or you are tired of the upkeep with the nails. I will show you how to remove the acrylic off of your nails easily and with out pain, without going back to the salon.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • cotton balls
  • nail clippers
  • pure acetone (wal-mart)
  • tin-foil
  • nail file and buffer
  • cuticle remover
  1. Step 1

Taking the acrylic off your nails may take a while to do. It took some time to get them put on, so it will take at least that long to take them off. First you will want to grab your nail clippers and cut the nail all the way to the tip of your finger. Be careful you do not cut to much nail.

  2. Step 2

Then using your nail file, gently file away the top coat of the nail. When you do this the acetone you will use to get the remaining acrylic off will soak into the nail. Take your tin-foil and cut about a 6-7 inch piece, then cut the foil in 1 inch strips long enough to wrap around your finger a couple of times.

  3. Step 3

Next you will want to take 10 cotton balls one for each finger and soak them in the acetone. Once they are fully saturated, (you may want to do the next part over the sink) apply them to the top of your nail. Take your strips of foil and wrap around the cotton balls.

  4. Step 4

I suggest you go watch TV, or read a book while waiting for the acetone to take affect on the nails. Maybe you could write an Ehow article :) Let the acetone sit on your nails for a minimum of 25 minutes. DO NOT take a peek and look under the cotton balls because this will cause the acrylic to harden and you'll have to start all over again.

  5. Step 5

After the time has passed peel back the foil and remove the cotton balls.
Take a cuticle remover and scrape the acrylic right off! It should come off easily, but if you find some left over acrylic on the nail, gently buff it off with your nail buffer.

  6. Step 6

Next, wash your hands with warm soapy water and dry. Take your favorite lotion and rub over your hands and nails. Make sure you get into the habit of doing this because the acetone makes your nails dry out. And that is it! Easy if you do not feel like going to the salon and paying to get them taken off. I hope you found this useful in removing your old acrylic nails.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never, rip, tear, or chip at your natural nails as this could cause big time damage.
  • Be careful to never over file your nails, this could hurt big time!
