Use spray paint to create the tie dye look.

Tie dyeing a T-shirt is often a messy process. The dye used is often runny and gets all over everything. You often end up with stained fingers and clothes. Try using spray paint to tie dye your next shirt. It's a much less messy process that leaves you with great-looking results.

Step 1

Choose at least three colors of spray paint and set up your work station in a well-ventilated area. Spread newspaper on a flat surface, and lay your T-shirt out flat on top of the newspaper.

Step 2

Place your hand in the center of the T-shirt and twist the shirt until the entire shirt is wound into a spiral. You can secure the T-shirt with rubber bands or you can simply leave the shirt in a loose spiral.

Step 3

Choose one color and spray the T-shirt with that color. Flip the shirt over and spray the back.

Step 4

Allow the shirt to dry completely and spray the second color on the shirt. If you want distinct sections of color on your shirt, create areas for each color where they don't overlap with other colors. Repeat the spraying process for each color.

Step 5

Unwind your shirt and let it dry completely before wearing.

Tip

Any spray paint will work for this project.

Warning

Avoid breathing paint fumes. Wear a mask if needed.
