make Christmas Eve magical with Food for Santa's Reindeer

Most girls and boys leave milk and cookies out for Santa Claus but what about his reindeer? Add to the magic of Christmas Eve with this fun and simple activity. It will soon become a favorite tradition. It's an easy recipe for reindeer food and a poem to go with it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rolled Oats
  • Gradulated Sugar You can find this in thie baking isle.
  • Small mixing bowl and spoon.
  1. Step 1

Make this together with your children. Take one cup of rolled oats and dump in bowl. Add 1/4 cup of colored granulated sugar. You can mix two colors of sugar if you like. Most people use red but you can use any color you like. (Yellow doesn't show up.) Allow your helper to mix well. If more than one they can take turns. If you prefer glitter can be used in place of the sugar. This is not a good idea if you have pets or wildlife that might consume it.

  2. Step 2

Before or after you make the reindeer food read this little poem.
Sprinkle on the lawn an night. The moon will sparkle and make it bright. As Santa's reindeer fly and roam this will guide them to your home. Santa's reindeer will love your snack and you can be sure next Christmas they'll be back.

  3. Step 3

Put the food in a plastic bag or container. After Santa's milk and cookies are set out and just before bed go outside and sprinkle the reindeer food on the lawn. Spread it around quite a bit. It will pretty much disappear over night. The grass and the moisture absorb what the reindeer don't eat. Now a favorite Christmas story such as Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer or the Night Before Christmas and the magical evening is complete.

Tips & Warnings
  • This makes a nice kids Christmas party favor or gift for a preschool class. Put it in baggies with a small copy of the poem attached.
