How to Make Snowflakes From Coffee Filters

Christmas is everyone's favorite time of the year. It's a time for parties, celebrations, being with friends and family and extending holiday cheer to everyone you meet. Festive get-togethers make the holidays extra special, and decking the halls with seasonal decorations helps promote the holiday spirit. Decorating for the holidays does not need to be an elaborate or expensive project. Snowflakes are the perfect decoration, and they can be very inexpensive to make. This is a project the whole family can enjoy doing together. Instead of going out to purchase special paper to make your snowflake, grab something you probably have right in your cupboard: coffee filters!

Things You'll Need

• Coffee filters Scissors Spray starch Iron

Instructions

1. Take a coffee filter and fold it in half.

2. Fold in half again, and continue until you can no longer fold because of the thickness of the filter.

3. With your scissors, cut shapes along the folded edges, as well as the outside edge of the filter.

4. To add more designs, open one fold of the filter and fold a new edge along an uncut part of the filter.

5. 

   Once you have finished cutting all the shapes you desire, make a small cut or shape on the pointed tip of the filter. Unfold, spray with spray starch and press lightly with an iron. You can also add some glitter if you want a little more sparkle.

Tips & Warnings

• If you want to hang your snowflakes from a ceiling, use light string or fishing line and ornament hooks. Anything heavier will interfere with the freedom of the snowflake to hang loosely.

• Be careful not to over-cut the coffee filter while designing your snowflake. The filters are very thin as it is, and if they are over-cut, they will not open up properly.
