How to Get Hairspray off of Furniture

If you’ve got an area in your home where a mirror is placed over a piece of wooden furniture, chances are someone has used the spot as a vanity. Though you probably don’t mind hosting a last minute primp, sticky hairspray residue can ruin the finish of your woodwork, not to mention that it looks unattractive. Here are a few tips to keep your woodwork hairspray-free.

Things You'll Need

  • 70 Percent Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Soft Cloth
  • Sponge
  • Towel
  • Furniture Polish or Wax
  • Soak a soft cloth with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol, and rub it on the hair spray stain.

  • Wipe with a wet washcloth.

  • Dry with an absorbent towel or cloth.

  • Mix a few drops of dish soap into some hot water, and sponge resistant hair spray stains. Be sure to dry the wood thoroughly when the area is no longer sticky.

  • Use commercial furniture polish or wax to make it easier to clean future stains.
