Things You'll Need:
- Pinecone
- Small gold jingle bell
- Piece of twig
- Sturdy piece of bark
- White craft glue
- Fine red glitter
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- 1/8-inch ribbon (6 inches for each ornament)
- Scissors
- Skewer or punch
-
Step 1
Get a pinecone with open seed scales. Look around in the ground for pieces of bark or strips some from fallen or cut branch pieces if you are on a nature walk in the forest or elsewhere. Pick up small pieces of branch.
-
Step 2
Put a piece of paper on your work surface. A piece of school binder paper or computer paper works fine. This is to catch the falling glitter. Put white craft glue on each open seed scale tip of the pine cone. Then sprinkle fine red glitter on the tips to cover the gluey areas. Let it dry completely.
-
Step 3
Following the natural form of the bark pieces, add glue and then glitter on random areas of the bark the same way the pinecone was done. Let it dry. Do the same with the piece of bark. The point is to highlight areas of the pinecone, bark piece and twig to make them stand out, not to cover the natural textures and color.
-
Step 4
Arrange the twig and pinecone on top of the piece of bark. Glue them in place using the hot glue gun. Then glue a small jingle bell at the top of the open pinecone. Let the glued pieces sit for 20 seconds or so to cool and dry.
-
Step 5
Poke a hole at the chosen hanging end of the ornament with the skewer, punch or any other sharp instrument that can poke a hole through the piece of bark. Then thread the 6-inch piece of ribbon through the hole. Tie the ends of the ribbon together it so it forms a ribbon hanging hook. Now hang them on your Christmas tree or give them as gifts. They add a nice natural touch to the Christmas tree and really sparkle with the tree lights.
