If you have a surface that may dull over time, clear coating it is a wise step, to keep it's integrity for long periods.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the surface by cleaning it thoroughly. You may be able to use surface cleaner or a wet cloth depending on the surface that you are working with. In some cases, you will simply have to use a dry cloth and dust the surface.

    • 2

Use an air compressor to blow off any rogue particles once the surface has dried, If you are working on a smaller surface, you may use a blow dryer.

    • 3

Begin spraying the first coat. Keep the can about two to three feet away from the surface and cover the entire area. Try to spray as evenly as possible, but don't spray too thickly to prevent running.

    • 4

Allow the surface to dry for several hours before continuing. If possible, keep the surface out of the wind, but still in open air. It is good to have plenty of ventilation, but you don't want foreign particles floating onto, and sticking to the clear coat. This goes especially for the first coat, because the foreign particles will then be sealed in with a second coat.

    • 5

Apply the second coat the same way that you applied the first coat. Keep the layer as thin and even as possible.

    • 6

Allow the surface to dry for five to six hours before handling. If desired, apply another coat.

Tips & Warnings

  • By applying many thin layers of clear coat instead of applying a few thick coats, you can get a cleaner and more smooth coating.

  • To get a frosted look, scrub the surface after each clear coat.

  • Always use caution when working around toxic chemicals.
