A glowing pumpkin path is a great way to warmly light the way for trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. This fun family project is perfect for lining your sidewalk with large pumpkins or the railing of your porch with smaller ones.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10 to 20 medium sized white pumpkins (depending on size of your sidewalk or path)
  • 2 strings of white Christmas lights with large bulbs
  • Cookie cutters (round or star-shaped)
  • Carving knife
  • Hammer
  • Pliers
  • Serrated knife
  • Extension cords
  1. Step 1

Cut out a hole in the bottom of one pumpkin.

  2. Step 2

Clean out the insides of the pumpkin.

  3. Step 3

Hammer a cookie cutter halfway into the skin of the pumpkin. This will make a pattern for the design.

  4. Step 4

Pull out the cookie cutter. Use pliers if needed to pull out.

  5. Step 5

Continue making shapes all around the pumpkin. The more shapes you make the more light will come out of the pumpkin.

  6. Step 6

Use the serrated knife to carve out the shapes the rest of the way.

  7. Step 7

Repeat steps 1 through 6 for the rest of the pumpkins.

  8. Step 8

Lay out the strings of lights along each side of your sidewalk or path. Insert the plug end of the light string into an outlet, using an extension cord if needed.

  9. Step 9

Set each pumpkin over one of the lights.

  10. Step 10

Cover the string and extension cord with leaves or hay to conceal them.

  11. Step 11

Turn on the lights and watch the pumpkins light up.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also use orange pumpkins and any other shape of cookie cutter.
