Bath fizzies, or bath bombs, are a great way to not only relax in the tub, but if made with the right ingredients, they are also great for combating dry skin. Just throw a bath fizzy in the tub and luxuriate in its effervescent aroma.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • ½ cup Epsom salt
  • 1 cup citric acid
  • 2 tsp. essential oil or fragrance oil (optional)
  • 2 tbsp. oil (jojoba works well)
  • Witch hazel
  • Mist sprayer
  • Large bowl
  • Muffin tin or other mold
  • Flat drying rack
  1. Step 1

Combine baking soda and Epsom salt in a large mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

Add essential oil or fragrance oil and liquid oil to the baking soda and Epsom salt mixture. Mix it well, making sure that no lumps are present.

  3. Step 3

Add the citric acid to your mixture and combine it thoroughly with your hands. The mixture should start to form and hold its shape when you squeeze it.

  4. Step 4

Lightly mist the mixture with witch hazel if more moisture is needed. Don’t add too much or it will activate the baking soda and Epsom salt combination.

  5. Step 5

Press the mixture into your mold. Make sure you are packing it tight enough in the mold that it will hold its shape.

  6. Step 6

Carefully flip your fizzies onto the drying rack. If it falls apart, try re-packing it into the mold and misting it with more witch hazel, if needed.

  7. Step 7

Allow your fizzies to dry completely, at least 24 hours.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can package and label your fizzies in cellophane bags or an airtight container to give as gifts.
  • The combination of citric acid and baking soda combined with the water from the bath will cause the fizz.
  • For sensitive skin, consider leaving out the essential oil or fragrance oil as this may irritate skin more.
  • If you would like to add color, food coloring will work. Just add a few drops at a time with the liquid ingredients until you get the color you want.
  • The oil from the bath fizzy may make the tub slippery. Use caution when standing in the tub.
  • If your mixture starts to fizz, it means you added too much liquid. Only add a little liquid at a time. Mist your mixture two or three times and mix well. Repeat as needed.
