Apple's "Mighty Mouse" is widely recognized as a premier wireless mouse for computers and operating systems of any kind. This mouse is primarily designed for use with a Macintosh computer, and is therefore easy to connect with Macs, but is also usable with the Windows XP operating system, due to its ability to right-click. Through a process called "pairing," which links the mouse with a computer through Bluetooth technology, this mouse can be set up with a PC.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mighty Mouse
  • Windows XP Operating System
  • Computer with Bluetooth capabilities

    Readying the mouse

  1. Step 1

Remove the Mighty Mouse from its packaging, and read the instruction manual that comes with it in order to familiarize yourself with the mouse.

  2. Step 2

Open the back hatch of the mouse and insert the two included batteries into their respective locations.

  3. Step 3

Close the mouse cover and pull back the switch covering the laser lens. The yellow light should begin to flash at regular intervals, indicating that it is searching for a compatible Bluetooth device.

  4. Pairing the Mouse with Your Windows Computer

  5. Step 1

Open the Windows control panel. This can be done by clicking the "Start" menu at the bottom left of the screen, followed by "Control Panel."

  7. Step 3

Choose the "Bluetooth Devices" option on the next screen that appears.

  8. Step 4

Add the Mighty Mouse to the list of Bluetooth Devices under the "Devices" tab, which opens by default. Begin this process by clicking the "Add" button on this tab.

  9. Step 5

Check the box reading "My device is set up and ready to be found," in the "Add Bluetooth Device Wizard," which should have opened when you began adding the device. Click "Next."

  10. Step 6

Select your mouse once it is found by the computer's Bluetooth scan by clicking it and pressing "Next."

  11. Step 7

Input the passkey "0000" when the Bluetooth Device Wizard asks for the passkey for your mouse. Click "Next."

  12. Step 8

Wait for the computer to supply the necessary drivers for the Mighty Mouse, and click "Finish." Your mouse should now be paired correctly.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are having trouble following the Control Panel instructions, check to see if you are in Classic View. If so, click the button at the top-left of the Control Panel reading "Switch to Category View."
  • If the Bluetooth Device Wizard is unable to locate your mouse, try covering and reopening the laser cover on the bottom of the mouse. Its search for a computer may have timed out, and this should reset the search.
  • Even though the laser used by Apple's Mighty Mouse is invisible, never look directly into it without the laser cover over the lens.
