Make Cell Phone Batteries Last Longer

Is your cell phone constantly running out of juice? You can make your cell phone battery last longer with a few easy tips. Here's how to keep your mobile phone battery from dying too early.

Instructions

    • 1

      DRAIN THE POWER

Some people know that draining a lithium battery will actually expand its shrinking capacity. Do it too often, however, and it has the opposite effect. Drain your battery complete (or as low as you can) every couple of weeks. DO NOT DRAIN TOO OFTEN.

      DO NOT OVER DRAIN

Lithium cell phone batteries have a back up power reserve when normal power has been drained. This power reserve is essential to keep the lithium battery functioning until it can be charged again. It is NOT to keep your cell phone running even when the power supply is drained.

When a lithium battery is drained and must revert to its reserve power, it runs the risk of dying completely. When you drain your battery, do not leave it uncharged for an extended period of time or you will drain the essential lithium power back up. Even when your phone is not in use, this reserve power is being consumed by the battery. The time a lithium battery can remain drained varies according to the quality of the battery, but it is generally a bad idea to leave a drained battery uncharged for more than a day. The sooner it is recharged, the better.

      DON'T OVERCHARGE

Lithium batteries should not be charged longer than necessary. This will cause damage to the battery as excessive charging causes the battery to overheat. Over time, you will experience a significant reduction in power capacity.

      STOP SEARCHING

When you are outside your phone's service area, you probably get a message that says "searching for signal." If you are outside your service area for any length of time, turn your phone off. The signal will not improve, and your phone will waste precious battery power constantly searching for a signal that does not exist.

      SIMPLE RINGTONES

Keeping ringtones simple will do a lot to extend the life of your battery. In fact, if you are able to hear and respond to simple beeping ringtones, it's a great way to keep the juice. Using a complicated or fancy ringtone really only wastes power and annoys the people you think you are impressing.

      TURN OFF VIBRATE

Vibrate is great feature when you are an in a place where ring tones are not appropriate. However, when your ringtone is activated, the vibrate function is generally not necessary. The Vibrate function is one of the most energy consuming tasks your cell phone performs as it requires the battery to power physical movement of parts.

      NO GAMES

Playing games on your computer is a serious waste of its energy. It must run a program and constantly interact with your commands. If longevity is more important to you than entertainment, avoid games.

      TURN OFF ACCESSORIES

When not using Blue Tooth, GPS, or internet, turn these functions off on your phone. Follow the instructions in the manual that came with your phone.

I had no clue that when the cell phone is in "searching for signal" mode that it drains more of the battery. But I guess it makes sense that your cell phone would kind of struggle to get a signal by boosting its power usage. I'll be sure to stay away from basement level buildings more often. Nice posting!
