How to Do a Variation of the Standard Cramproll Time Step

The standard cramproll time step begins with a shuffle--unlike the buck cramproll time step, which starts with a stomp. The count for the standard version is “8 and 1 2 and 3 and a.” The left heel is dropped first, followed by the right heel, which frees up the left foot to begin execution of the step on the left. The cramproll is sometimes referred to as a drumroll.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tap shoes
  1. Step 1

Shuffle to the front on your right foot on the count of “8 and.”

  2. Step 2

Hop on your left foot on the count of “1.”

  3. Step 3

Step down on your right foot on the count of “2.”

  4. Step 4

Flap to the front (brush step) on your left foot on the count of “and 3.” Step down on the ball of your left foot, not on the entire foot. In order to drop the left heel (the step that follows), the heel has to be up and off of the ground.

  5. Step 5

Drop your left heel on the count of “and.”

  6. Step 6

Drop your right heel on the count of “a.”

  7. Step 7

Memorize the steps: Shuffle hop, step, flap, heel heel.

  8. Step 8

    Memorize the count: 8 and 1 2 and 3 and a.

  9. Step 9

Repeat the step starting on your left foot.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can alternate the heel drops. In the above step, you drop the left heel first and then the right heel. You can switch it up and reverse it; however, that would leave your right foot free, rather than your left foot, meaning that you would execute the next step starting on your right foot, not the left.
