Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. The Subaru reservoir is located at the rear of the engine compartment on the driver's side. If you top it off and seal the cap tightly, it should reduce the amount of fluid lost during the replacement process.

    • 2

Raise and support your Subaru on suitable jack stands. Remove the wheel to reach the brake line and caliper.

    • 3

Inspect the condition of the brake hose. It must be replaced as well if it's stretched, cracked or damaged.

    • 4

Bend the replacement line to mimic the existing brake line.

    Replacement

    • 5

Disconnect the brake line where it connects to the brake hose first. Remove the two bolts on each connector with two line wrenches.

    • 6

Install the replacement line. Attach the end farthest from brake hose first to avoid stretching the hose. Screw on the bolts, and then tighten with the wrenches.

    • 7

Bleed the system of air. Open the caliper bleeder valve, attach a vinyl tube and place the other end in a container with brake fluid in the bottom. Have an assistant press the brake pedal to remove the air.

    • 8

Put the wheel back on and then remove the next wheel. Test the brakes once you've replaced all the lines.
