Things You'll Need:
- Pin or sewing needle (optional)
- Hose cutter
- Vacuum connectors
-
Step 1
Check to ensure the windshield-washer tubing isn't clogged. Sometimes the tubing doesn't need to be replaced. If the little holes on the ball of the sprayer become clogged from hard water or build-up from the washer fluid, take a pin or sewing needle, and poke a hole to get rid of any debris.
-
Step 2
Purchase windshield-washer tubing from a car parts store. The tubing might also be referred to as vacuum tubing.
-
Step 3
Look for the windshield-washer fluid reservoir near the front right corner of the Ion's engine compartment. It has a black cap showing an image of a waterspout over a windshield.
-
Step 4
Remove the old tubing, and remain careful when removing the vacuum connectors. You don't want to break or disfigure the connectors if you're not planning to replace them.
-
Step 5
Hold up the old windshield-washer tubing if you plan to replace the entire section. Place the new tubing next to the old, using the old as a guide to the length your vehicle needs. Use a hose cutter to cut enough of the new tubing to fit your Saturn Ion.
-
Step 6
Place the new tubing into your Ion. Use the old connectors, or insert the new ones, and ensure the tubing doesn't interfere with any other engine parts. When closing the hood, be extra cautious to make sure the tubing doesn't get bent.
