A homemade greeting card is a canvas for the creative crafter. The outside of the card is the expression of its creator, and there is no rule in how the finish product should look. It might be a one-dimensional painting or drawing, or a three-dimensional creation that requires a fat envelope. After making your greeting card, the next project is making a homemade envelope.

Things You'll Need

  • 10x7-inch sheet of heavy construction paper
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Embellishments
  • Ink marker

Turn the sheet of construction paper horizontally, and lay it on a flat surface, such as a kitchen counter.

Fold the sheet in half, bringing the left side of the paper onto the right side of the paper, and matching up the top and bottom corners of the paper. This creates a 5x7-inch blank greeting card.

Run a ruler over the folded end to make a clean and flat edge for the card, smoothing out any wrinkles.

Decorate the outside of the card by painting, calligraphy, stamping or create a picture by gluing on shapes cut from construction paper, magazines, photographs, recycled greeting cards or use scrapbook embellishments, such as dried flowers, buttons, ribbons, stickers or other small ornamental items.

Open the card after any glue or paint dries, and write an inscription on the inside of the card, using an ink marker.
