If you own a Toyota Camry, you probably know that it needs regular maintenance to function properly. If you have put 100,000 or more miles on the odomoter, it's probably time to replace the valve cover gasket.
Things You'll Need
- 5/8 to 3/8 spark plug socket and wrench
- Flat head screwdriver
- Valve Cover Gasket Sealer
- 10 mm socket
- Automotive Engine Cleaner
- Valve Cover Gasket Kit
- Valve Cover Gasket
- Spark Plug Tool
Disconnect the negative battery cable, the engine wire protector, the coil plug wires from the right hand side and the heated oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor plug wire.
Disconnect the PCV valve hose and connector clamp, ECT Sensor gauge connector and the USV connector plug. Unplug the EGR valve sensor connector and the IAC valve connector wire. Remove valve cover bolts and valve cover from the left hand side.
Disconnect the accelerator cable. Remove the purge hose, the high-tension cord set, the ignition coil, the vacuum hoses, the valve cover bolts and brackets and the valve cover on the left side.
Remove the old gasket. Clean the gasket seating with automotive engine cleaner. Use a scrub brush to remove any left over gasket particles that may remain. Place the new gasket into the gasket seating area.
Place the valve cover on the right side back, tightening the bolts in sequence. Put the vacuum hoses, Ignition coil, High tension cord and set and the purge hose back in place. Put the accelerator cable back.
Reconnect the EGR valve sensor connector and USV connector plug. Reconnect the ECT gauge sensor, PCV valve hose and connector clamp, the heated oxygen sensor bank one sensor plug and the coil plug wires. Reconnect the engine wire protector and the battery cable.
Scan the engine to ensure that all parts that were initially removed have been put back into place. Fill the engine with oil and let the car run a while.
