Things You'll Need:
- Orange tissue or foil paper
- Black, green and red construction paper
- Scissors
- Ribbon
- Pencil or pen
- Tape or glue
- Candy or small toys as a filler
- Empty toilet paper rolls
-
Step 1
Lay an empty toilet paper roll lengthwise on top of a piece of construction paper, starting at the bottom edge. Mark where the top of the toilet paper comes to with a pencil and cut off the excess. This will leave you with a piece of construction paper that is the same length as the toilet paper roll. You can make them in any color construction paper you like, but it is best to use the Kwanzaa colors of red, green and black for this project.
-
Step 2
Wrap the construction paper around the toilet paper roll and glue or tape it into place.
-
Step 3
Make two squares of orange tissue paper or foil paper. The squares should be about 12 inches on each side. One should be laid down in the shape of a square and the other should be laid on top of it in the shape of a diamond.
-
Step 4
Place a pencil with the eraser side down into the middle of the two squares of tissue paper, and gather it up around the pencil kind of like closing an umbrella.
-
Step 5
Use the pencil to shove the tissue paper down into the toilet paper roll. Do not press too hard, because you do not want to poke a hole in your tissue paper. But, you need to get it close to the bottom of the toilet paper roll.
-
Step 6
Fold the edges of the tissue paper out, so that you can see down into the toilet paper roll. You should now have formed a sort of bag inside of the toilet paper roll with the tissue paper.
-
Step 7
Fill the tissue paper inside the toilet paper roll with little toys or candy treats. You can put items in there that pertain to Kwanzaa, or even small homemade gifts.
-
Step 8
Gather the top of the tissue paper up over the treats inside and secure it with a ribbon. Poof the tissue paper up when you are done, so that it looks like the flame of a candle.
