How to Dress Like Lara Croft Tomb Raider

Save

Lara Croft is a heroine that was brought to life on the big screen by Angelina Jolie. This gamer's sweetheart brings a combination of power, strength, grit and beauty to computer screens worldwide. The female version of Indiana Jones, Lara Croft dresses simply so that she's always ready for action. Here's how you can dress like Lara Croft.

Things You'll Need

  • Long black wig
  • 2 fake handguns
  • Leg holsters
  • Tall black boots
  • Black tank top and shorts
  • Sunglasses (optional)
  • Purchase a long black wig if you have short hair. If your hair is long, you can color it brown or black to look more like Lara Croft. Fit the wig to your head and braid the hair in a single long braid down your back. Be sure to keep a couple small strands pulled forward, as Lara Croft has a couple pieces of hair that fall in her face.

  • Find a black tank top or fitted T-shirt and black shorts. The shorts should be cuffed and fairly short. Wear black attire if you want to look like Lara Croft from the movie version. If you want to look like the original video game "Tomb Raider," wear a teal tank top and brown cuffed shorts.

  • Create a leg holster for two guns out of black duct tape. This can be done by measuring the length of the leg from the hip to mid-thigh and cutting a piece of duct tape a little more than double that length. Wrap the tape around a belt, so the belt can anchor the strap, then double the tape so it sticks to itself, not allowing the sticky part of the tape to touch anything else. Do the same on the other side. Make two loops out of duct tape the same way and affix the loops to the loose ends of the duct tape hanging from the belt. The legs will slide through these to hold the guns. Create a holster shape out of cardboard and affix it to the outside of the leg loop. Fasten the cardboard to the leg loop with duct tape, then cover with duct tape to reinforce and hide any cardboard. Do this on both sides.

  • Find tall black boots. If you do not own a pair, you can purchase some shoe covers at a costume store that will make your shoes look like boots. This will not look as realistic as wearing real boots, but it will give the illusion of boots.

  • Paint plastic guns black if they are not already black. Once they are dry, slide them into the leg holsters and make sure they fit securely. If they are loose, you may need to tighten the holster by adding a ring of duct tape to it to bring it closer to the leg loop.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't want to spend a lot of money on the costume, you can fashion the leg gun holsters out of black duct tape.
  • Making the costume yourself will make it look more realistic than a store-bought costume.
  • Don't use real guns for this costume. Using real guns could get you thrown out of bars and parties, and could lead to being arrested.
  • Be careful wearing a wig around open flames. The material used to make the fake hair can be flammable, and this could be dangerous if you are not used to having long hair.
