You do not always need traditional jewelry clasps on hand when you are making jewelry. Take a look through your old button jar and find a large vintage button that will truly go with your bracelet. Large old buttons will give your bracelet the appearance of being an antique. One-of-a-kind jewelry is always refreshing to have on hand. None of your friends have the same bracelet. You have made this one all by yourself.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 12-inch strand of bright nylon coated stringing wire
  • Assorted glass beads (variety of sizes, small, medium and large)
  • Silver bead caps
  • 3/4-inch wide silver button
  • 2 #2 crimp tubes
  • Crimping pliers
  • Wire cutters
  • 1 package of small beads
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  1. Step 1

Lay your wire out flat on a table top. Take your ruler and measure 12 inches of wire. Mark off the desired length with your pencil. Take your wire cutters and cut the wire.

  2. Step 2

Open your small bag of beads. You will be stringing approximately 20 small beads to form a loop. Slip both ends of the beaded wire through a crimping tube. Flatten the crimp tube with the crimping pliers. Push hard to make sure the tube is completely closed. The loop you have just made will be used as your clasp holder.

  3. Step 3

Pick up your wire and on the longer end begin to place your beads. The first bead will be a small bead. The small bead will be followed by a medium-sized bead. Place a bead cap next to the medium-sized bead then put the larger bead on followed by another bead cap. The three beads complete one part of your bracelet.

  4. Step 4

Continue to string your beads until you have a length of 7 inches. Pick up your button. String the wire through the button holes and pull the wire tight. Push the button secure against the last bead. Pull the wire through the second crimp tube. Flatten the crimp tube with the crimping pliers. Push hard to make sure the tube is completely closed.

  5. Step 5

Using your wire cutters trim off the excess wire on both ends of the bracelet. Your bracelet is now ready to be worn.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can create many different versions of this bracelet. Just look in your button jar to find a large button that appeals to you and start to string away.
  • Make sure that you dispose of the excess wire pieces.
