Consider the place and time of day where you typically apply your makeup. It is important to assess the lighting in this area. Natural lighting is always preferable when putting on your makeup, but there are alternative sources of lighting available that can be suitable for the mirror’s location and for the application of your makeup.

Do a test run. Place the mirror in the location that you have selected to hang it temporary (you can simply hold the mirror in place or request the help of a friend). Next, assume your application stance to reassess the lighting by standing, sitting, leaning and looking in the mirror just as you would do if you were putting on your makeup. Your face should be evenly lighted; if you observe any shadowing effects, the mirror should be relocated. If you have trouble deciding where to hang your makeup mirror, try placing it directly in front of a natural light source, like a window. This way, you face the mirror as the light from the window hits your face, instead of blocking the light source with your own shadow.

Use a leveling device and a pencil to make two small marks to indicate where the makeup mirror will hang. Pound two small nails, evenly spaced, lightly into the wall with a hammer. Hang the makeup mirror, gently resting it on the two nails. For a nonremovable makeup mirror, pound the nails through the front of the mirror and into the wall, marking the mirror with the pencil, corresponding to the marks on the wall.

Make sure the mirror is hanging level and even. Ideally, you should not need to turn or tilt your head to achieve your desired lighting for applying makeup.
