How to Cool Cornbread. Cornbread goes with many different types of meals. It is easy to make plain or with jalapeño peppers or other added ingredients. Once the cornbread is finished baking, you must cool it before serving. Uncooled cornbread will be mushy.

Step 1

Bake the cornbread in the oven for the allotted amount of time indicated on the box or recipe.

Step 2

Take the cornbread out of the oven, but do not remove it from the pan. Wiggle the pan a little bit to make sure the cornbread slides a little. This will help you determine if the cornbread stuck to the pan or not.

Step 3

Set the pan of warm cornbread on a cooling rack.

Step 4

Leave the pans of cornbread on the cooling rack for at least 20 minutes. The longer you leave them, the better. This will allow the center part of the cornbread to harden. The center will be a little mushy when it first comes out of the oven, but will harden as it cools on the cooling rack. This is why it is essential to always cool your cornbread before cutting or eating it.

Step 5

Cut the cornbread into small square pieces and place them on a serving plate. If the cornbread gets cold, you can place it in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it again. Enjoy your cornbread.
