Chase The Ace Poker is one of those games that is a great choice when you are waiting for your full group of friends to arrive for your poker night. It is a game that doesn’t require a lot of strategy or thinking. There also is no betting in the game, therefore it is a game that players will not lose a lot of money in to start the night. There are three antes that each player places in front of them to start the game. A player loses an ante if at the end of the hand they have the lowest card at the table. If a player loses all three of their antes, they are out of the game. The last player with an ante or antes remaining wins the pot.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Organize a home poker night with you and your friends. One of the great things about Chase The Ace Poker is that it can be played with any amount of players. Each player will only be receiving one card, so in theory there could be 51 players. The number of players you invite should be determined by the other games you will be playing that night during the home poker night.

  2. Step 2

Direct each player to place three equal antes in front of them. Typically these antes are higher than the lowest value chip, but lower than the highest value chip.

  3. Step 3

Deal one card face down to each player. Each player may view their own face down card once everyone has received a card.

  4. Step 4

Give the player to the left of the dealer their choice first. The choice involves keeping the card they have been dealt, or swapping it with the player to their left. Make sure everyone knows that the player with the lowest card at the table at the end of the hand will lose one of their antes. Once a player loses all three antes they are out of the game.

  5. Step 5

Continue around the table in a clockwise motion. On their turn a player must decide to keep their own card or give the player to their left that card and take that player’s card. The dealer does not swap with the player to his left. Instead the dealer either keeps their own card, or draws the top card from the deck.

  6. Step 6

Reveal the cards. The player at the table with the lowest card loses one of their antes into the pot.

  7. Step 7

Repeat steps three through six until only one player has an ante or antes remaining at the table. That player is the winner and takes the pot which is made up of everyone else’s antes.

Tips & Warnings
  • The strategy level in Chase The Ace Poker is rather low, but there is room for some bluffing. The best time to bluff is if you are the player to the left of the dealer and you have a middle card. When you decide to keep your card, the dealer might become more likely to trade in a card that is higher than the one you kept. You also avoid being stuck with a card from the dealer if it was lower than yours.
  • Do not use the same dealer for every round of Chase The Ace Poker. There is a significant advantage for the dealer in this game, so the dealer button should rotate around the table with each new deal.
