How to Listen to Voicemails

Most telephone companies or companies such as Comcast offer voicemail systems for your phone. This is extremely convenient and eliminates the need to buy a separate answering machine. Companies such as Comcast include this service in their price, but you may have to request this service with other companies. It may raise your phone bill each month so make sure you get all the details before you order it.

1. Punch in the connection code. Once you have voicemail it is really easy to use it. You should be given a set of instructions when you sign up, but in case you didn't this is what you do. For Comcast you press *99 to get to your voicemail mailbox.

2. Give your passcode. You will then be prompted for your passcode. You would have set this up the first time you used the system. It should be four numbers that you can remember easily. Press the numbers on your telephone's key pad.

3. Press 1 for the main menu. You will be told how many new messages you have and how many saved messages you have. Then you will be asked if you want to go to the main menu. Press 1 for the main menu.

4. Listen to your messages. The first message will then be played for you. When you are done listening to it you will get a choice to save the message, mark the message as unread, or delete. To delete the message and move on to the next message press 7. To save the message press 9. To mark the message as unread press 91. If you need more options you can dial 0 at any time.

5. Send a message from your voicemail if you want. To send a message to another user press 2 instead of 1 which takes you to the main menu. When the prompt tells you you can begin recording your message. When you are done push the pound sign and then enter the phone number of the recipient.

6. Change your personal settings. You may want to change your password from time to time. Instead of pressing 1 for the main menu or 2 to send a message, press 4. You can then follow the prompts to enter a new password.

Tips & Warnings

• If you run in to any problems just contact the company you have a contract with. They can walk you through the system in person, or check to make sure your lines are running okay.

• You will not be able to check the voicemail of your cell phone if you don't have any reception. Make sure you have enough bars before you begin.
