Instructions

  1. Bridal Hair

    • 1
      Begin with a Ponytail

Untangle hair with a wide-toothed comb by combing the ends of the hair first and removing the snarls from the scalp to the ends of the hair.

    • 2
Making a Ponytail for Hair Buns

Brush the hair up into a ponytail. If you want two hair buns, brush hair into pigtails and secure with an elastic ponytail holder.

    • 3
      Sectioning

Divide the ponytail into two sections. Both sections should be of an even thickness so that each braid ends up being the same size. Bridal hair must be perfect.

    • 4
      Braiding the First Section

Braid half of the ponytail first, as close to the ends as you can get it. If the ends are very very thin, it's okay to stop sooner. Secure with a small elastic band or a spritz of strong hair spray. If you're securing it with hair spray, you might want to allow it to dry either by holding it for a minute or blow drying it on low, while the braid is held securely so it doesn't unravel.

    • 5
      Braiding Second Half of Ponytail

Repeat the previous step using the other half of the hair. Using two braids ensures that there is no awkward un-braided loop at the base of the bun. If you decide to use one braid in each ponytail (or pigtail), you might want to pin down the base with a bobby pin so that the hair bun (or hair buns) has a nice shape.

Wrap both braids around the base of the ponytail. Wrap one, in one direction, and then wrap the other one around it. You might want to use a hair pin to keep the braid secured, but it isn't always necessary. Most often, the braid can simply be tucked in underneath the previous wraps. To be on the safe side, with prom hair or bridal hair, pin it into place and give the finished product an all-over misting with styling spray or a glitter mist.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you're learning how to braid, give yourself plenty of time to practice

  • When it's time to unravel the braids, be careful and go slowly so that you don't end up tying knots in the hair.
