How to Prepare Materials for Quilting

You've accumulated an assortment of pretty fabrics and planned your quilt design. Before the fun begins, the material must be clean and wrinkle-free.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Soak the fabric in cold water and mild soap, the kind you would use to wash sweaters or other delicate garments.

  2. Step 2

    Rinse.

  3. Step 3

    Hang to dry or use low dryer cycle.

  4. Step 4

    Pull opposite corners to "straighten" material.

  5. Step 5

    Iron.

Tips & Warnings
  • For best results, prepare all fabrics for a new project right before you start.
  • Soak fabric pieces one at a time.

on 9/1/2007 When drying don't forget to dry in the shade. Because most quilting fabrics are cotton they will fade in direct sunlight.
