This is a great activity for kids at a party or on a rainy afternoon. For the final touch, use paint or markers to decorate the hat. Here are a few easy steps to creating the perfect paper hat.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Newspaper Hat

Step1
Take one large newspaper sheet that consists of two pages on each side.
Step2
Fold in half lengthwise (the way it comes in the newspaper).
Step3
Fold in half again (bringing the top of the paper to the bottom).
Step4
Fold corners (on folded side) to middle. This will make a pointed top to paper.
Step5
Fold one piece of bottom of paper up to the bottom of the pointed fold.
Step6
Fold bottom again until it overlaps a little of the pointed part.
Step7
Turn hat over.
Step8
Fold sides in about 1 1/2 to 2 inches (it will look like a house). For an adult-sized head, fold in only an inch or so - these folds determine the hat size.
Step9
Fold bottom up twice.
Step10
Pull opening in hat apart to make a hat shape.

Tips & Warnings

  • Fold tip over into brim for a different style.

on 10/12/2007 Thank You for the tip on how to make a paper hat. Its been years since I've made one myself as a child. My daughter came home one day and asked me to make one for her. I couldn't remember how and I came across your "how to.." web site. Now we can make them together and have fun with it. Thank you for the help!
