How to Make a Cupcake Tree
What is a cupcake tree? A cupcake tree is a fun and creative way to display beautifully decorated, or even regularly frosted, cupcakes. More and more people are using cupcake trees in the place of cakes at baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, anniversaries and even weddings. They can have three to seven tiers and can hold anywhere from 23 to 200 cupcakes. At weddings, the top layer is often used to hold a smaller cake for the cake-cutting ceremony.

Find a cupcake stand that is made of cardboard, metal, glass, plastic or wood to act as the tower. Check at your local bakery, cake decorating store or crafts store to buy one. You can also find a cupcake stand or tower on Craigslist or eBay relatively cheap.

Make your cupcakes. Use your favorite cupcake recipe, whether it's made by hand or from a box. Add extra cuteness by selecting paper cups based on a theme (for example, soccer balls for a soccer party). The best way to decorate cupcakes is if they don't crumble when you go to decorate them. The trick is to make the cupcakes and then freeze them without any decorations or frosting. Wrap each cupcake in foil or plastic wrap and place them in a container in the freezer. Take them out and decorate them when you are ready to use them.

Decorate your cupcakes any way you choose. Use only the frosting (decorating with a knife), perhaps adding sprinkles on top. Or, use cake-decorating bags and tips to make your cupcakes look even fancier. Frost them and add decorative picks. Frost your cupcakes different colors (red and green for a Christmas theme, for example).
