Are you hosting a holiday party or fancy occasion and don’t want to go with the traditional cake for dessert. A cupcake tree is a fun and creative way to serve dessert. It is something you can create yourself. Here are some steps for creating a cupcake tree.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cupcakes
  • Frosting
  • Cupcake Stand or Tower
  1. Step 1

What is a cupcake tree? A cupcake tree is a fun and creative way to display beautifully decorated, or even regularly frosted, cupcakes. More and more people are using cupcake trees in the place of cakes at baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, anniversaries and even weddings. Cupcake trees can have three to seven tiers and can hold anywhere from 23 to 200 cupcakes. At weddings, the top layer is often used to hold a smaller cake for the cake cutting ceremony.

  2. Step 2

Choose a cupcake stand or tower. You can find cupcake stands that are made of cardboard, metal, glass, plastic, or wood. Check at your local bakery, cake decorating store, or crafts store to buy one. You can also find a cupcake stand or tower on craigslist or ebay relatively cheap.

  3. Step 3

Make your cupcakes. Use your favorite cupcake recipe, whether it’s made by hand or from a box. You can add extra cuteness by selecting paper cups based on a theme (i.e. soccer balls for a soccer party). The best way to decorate cupcakes is if they don’t crumble when you go to decorate them. The trick is to make the cupcakes and then freeze them without any decorations or frosting. Wrap each cupcake in foil or plastic wrap and place them in a container in the freezer. When you are ready to use them, take them out and decorate them.

  4. Step 4

Decorate your cupcakes. You can decorate your cupcakes many different ways. You can decorate them with only the frosting (decorating with a knife), perhaps adding sprinkles on top. You can use cake decorating bags and tips to make your cupcakes look even fancier. You can frost them and add decorative picks. You can frost your cupcakes different colors (i.e. red and green for a Christmas theme). For a child’s party, you can write the first letter of each child’s name on a cupcake and hand it to the child when it comes time to eat cupcakes. The ideas are endless. Search online for more decorating ideas.

  5. Step 5

Cupcake trees save you time and money. Not only are cupcake trees decorative and creative, but they are also time and money savers. You save time by not having to clean up as much afterwards. There is no need to throw away plates or silverware, or wash them because people don’t need plates and silverware to eat cupcakes. You save money by creating them yourself. There’s no need to pay someone else to make the cake because you can make the cupcake tree yourself and have it look just good.

  6. Step 6

Be proud of your work. You will feel a sense of accomplishment once your cupcake tree is put together. Watch how fast the cupcakes go. Eat up and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make the cupcakes and freeze them before decorating. It will make decorating easier and they will crumble less.
  • Don’t stress about it looking perfect. Like everything in life, practice makes perfect….or near perfect.
